How Many Emails Should a Welcome Sequence Have?
Most small businesses should send 4 to 6 welcome emails over 1 to 2 weeks. Here is how to decide the right number, with timing for each email.
Most small businesses should send 4 to 6 welcome emails over the first one to two weeks after someone subscribes. Send the first immediately, then space the rest one to three days apart. Use fewer emails (3) for simple, low-cost products and more (6 to 8) for considered purchases or services where people need more trust before buying.
Choose the length by how people buy
| Your business | Suggested welcome length |
|---|---|
| Low-cost products bought on impulse | 3 to 4 emails over a week |
| Fashion, beauty, home and gifts | 4 to 5 emails over 8 to 10 days |
| Higher-priced products | 5 to 6 emails over 2 weeks |
| Services, coaching, B2B | 5 to 8 emails over 2 to 3 weeks |
A reliable five-email pattern
- Day 0: Welcome and deliver what you promised.
- Day 2: Your story and what makes you different.
- Day 4: Proof: reviews, results, case studies.
- Day 6: Help them choose.
- Day 8: An offer or invitation with a deadline.

Signs your sequence is the wrong length
- Too short: subscribers rarely buy from the welcome emails, and your first newsletter gets few clicks because they barely know you.
- Too long: unsubscribes climb in the later emails, or most sales happen in email two and later emails add little.
Check your email platform's per-email results after a month and remove or rewrite the weakest email.
Do not forget exit rules
Whatever the length, stop the sequence when someone buys or books, and move them into the post-purchase or onboarding flow instead.
Frequently asked questions
Is one welcome email enough?
One email is better than none, but a short sequence gives you room to tell your story, show proof and make an offer without cramming it all in.
Can a welcome sequence be too long?
Yes, if every email pushes a sale or the gaps are too short. Watch unsubscribes in the later emails and trim if they rise.
How far apart should welcome emails be?
Send the first immediately, then space the rest one to three days apart.
